Student leadership

Senior leadership badge

Participation in our 'Senior Leaders' Program' is voluntary for all children who will be entering their final year of primary school next year. Children who successfully complete the program will be eligible to wear a badge in recognition of their achievement, be expected to fulfil certain responsibilities during the course of next year and be eligible to nominate for school captain, music captain and house captain postitions.

Shortlisting for these positions will be done by a committee of staff members who will take into account information on this application form, student's school reports and school behaviour history. Badges may be earned at any time during students' final year.

Criteria for selection:

  • a willingness to further develop leadership skills
  • consistent adherence to School Rules without reminders
  • a high level of responsibility and willingness to commit to activites associated with the role
  • appropriate communication and people skills
  • very high level of personal presentation - always wears school uniform with pride
  • willingness to commit to and participate in school activities including willingness to work behind the scenes to set up and clean up from activity days, sports days etc.
  • regular attendance at school.

School leadership positions

Each year students have the opportunity to be selected for additional leadership positions including:

  • School captains and school vice captains - Students are short listed by their peers and elected by the upper primary student body.
  • House captains - Students are elected by house members
  • Music captains - Students are elected by music students participating in string ensemble, concert band and choir

Student council

Each Semester, years 3 to 6 elect a responsible classmate to represent them on the student council. Student leaders also attend our weekly meetings and report to year 1 and 2 classes. Student council activities include:

  • fundraising once a term for selected charities
  • weekly judging and presenting of the 'Tidy Class Trophy'
  • weekly assembly presentations of a social skill
  • discussion of student feedback on a range of school issues (this feedback is then passed on to the principal and then the P&C Committee).

Students selected in any elected/selected positions have to exemplify an appropriate standard of behaviour. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the position/badge.
